Pre-Stretch Film
Pre-Stretch Film is a specially manufactured stretch wrapping film that has been mechanically stretched during production to achieve a thinner gauge while maintaining the strength and load-holding properties of a thicker film. This innovative process delivers a ready-to-use film that requires significantly less physical effort to apply manually, while providing higher yield per roll and consistent performance.
Unlike standard hand film that relies entirely on the operator to generate stretch during application, pre-stretch film comes already elongated, meaning users achieve maximum stretch with minimal pulling force.
Detailed Introduction
Features:
1. Factory Pre-Stretched
Mechanically stretched during manufacturing to typical ratios of 100% – 300%. The film arrives at a thinner gauge but retains the tensile strength and puncture resistance of its original thickness.
2. Reduced Application Effort
Because the film is already stretched, operators need very little force to apply it. Significantly reduces physical strain and fatigue during manual wrapping — especially important for high-volume or repetitive wrapping tasks.
3. Higher Yield Per Roll
A pre-stretched roll delivers substantially more linear feet of film compared to a conventional roll of the same weight. Fewer roll changes, less storage space required, and lower cost per wrapped load.
4. Consistent Stretch & Tension
Factory-controlled pre-stretch eliminates the variability of manual stretching. Every wrap achieves the same tension and containment force, resulting in more uniform and reliable pallet loads.
5. Same Strength, Less Material
Despite being thinner, pre-stretch film maintains equivalent load retention, puncture resistance, and cling performance as standard film of the original base gauge.
6. Quieter Unwinding
Lower unwind noise compared to standard cast film. Ideal for noise-sensitive environments.
How It Works:
| Stage | Description |
| Base Film | Standard gauge film (e.g., 20 µm) is produced normally |
| Pre-Stretch Process | Film is mechanically stretched in factory to a thinner gauge (e.g., 10 µm) |
| Molecular Orientation | Stretching aligns polymer molecules, increasing strength per micron |
| Finished Product | Thinner film with equal or better performance than original gauge |
| User Application | Minimal force required; film is applied near its maximum stretch limit |
Applications:
-
Warehouse & Distribution: High-volume manual pallet wrapping where operator fatigue is a concern.
-
Retail Backrooms: Quick wrapping of mixed loads and partial pallets.
-
E-Commerce Fulfillment: Securing outgoing parcels and returns.
-
Moving & Relocation: Furniture and appliance wrapping with less physical effort.
-
Manufacturing: Wrapping finished goods and work-in-progress items.
-
Cold Storage: Suitable for freezer and refrigerated environments.
Benefits:
- Less Physical Strain: Up to 50% less force required compared to standard hand film.
- More Wraps Per Roll: 2x – 3x more footage compared to conventional film of the same weight.
- Lower Cost Per Load: Reduced film consumption and fewer roll changes save time and money.
- Consistent Quality: Eliminates guesswork and inconsistency in manual stretching.
- Storage Efficiency: More film per roll means less warehouse space for inventory.
- Environmentally Friendlier: Less material used per pallet reduces plastic waste.
